Siemens announced in a statement that it has awarded a pilot project to replace sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) gas in medium-voltage switchgear with climate-neutral clean air.
The Project was awarded by Saudi Electricity Company (SEC).
SF6 is one of the most potent greenhouse gases – 23,500 times more impactful than CO2 over a century.
The Siemens Blue GIS pilot project with SEC – which will focus on research, development, and performance assessment – is a stride toward sustainability, aligning with SEC’s initiative to make its grid more efficient and sustainable, and contributing to the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and Net Zero 2060 goals, statement mentioned.
