DL E&C, South Korea announced that it has signed a “Mutual Cooperation MOU for the Application of Small Modular Reactors (SMR) in Desalination Plants” with SWCC at the Fairmont Hotel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
This collaboration took place during a visit to Saudi Arabia by DL E&C, chosen for the “2023 Middle East Economic Delegation,” organized by the Korea Business Association, Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) to strengthen private economic cooperation with Middle Eastern countries.
Both DL E&C and SWCC have agreed to jointly seek the best solution for applying SMRs in desalination plants. They also intend to collaborate on research for a clean hydrogen/ammonia production model that utilizes SMRs to create added value.
SWCC, a government agency of Saudi Arabia, stands as the country’s second-largest power producer and currently operates the world’s largest desalination facility. Through its affiliated research institute, SWCC spearheads projects to reduce carbon in the areas of desalination and power generation using renewable energy.
