Mitsui & Co., Ltd. announced in a statement that recently it has signed a strategic MOU with Ma’aden, one of the largest multi-commodity mining and metals company in the Middle East, to reduce GHG emissions in their aluminum value chain including bauxite mining operation, alumina refinery, and aluminum smelter among others.
Through the MOU, Mitsui will jointly explore and develop decarbonization solutions in manufacturing process, through renewable energy sources such as solar power generation, and monetization of carbon credits, contributing to Ma’aden’s greener aluminum production.
This new collaboration is an extension of Mitsui’s long-term relationship with Ma’aden. We have been supplying their primary aluminum over many years, mainly to the Japanese market and other parts of Asia. We will continue promoting decarbonization initiatives so that we can contribute to one of the biggest challenges that the aluminum industry faces today, statement mentioned.
