Sharjah Electricity & Water Authority (SEWA) has announced a new plan to increase the production of desalinated water in Sharjah by establishing a new desalination plant in Hamriyah.
The planned desalination project will produce 90 million gallons per day.
This comes as part of the authority’s strategy to sustain and provide water for development projects and future generations.
Engineer Essam Al Mulla, Manager of the Water and Desalination Plants, revealed that SEWA had signed a contract with a number of consultants and international houses of expertise to conduct studies and set technical specifications in order to tender contracts to construct the plant.
Al Mulla said that these studies will take around 18 months while the implementation phase will take about 3 years, adding that the plant is expected to be complete in 2026.
