Under the patronage of the Governor of the Emirate of Jazan Province, His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz and His Excellency Abdulrahman AlFadley, Minister of Environment and Water, the Al Shuqaiq 3 IWP has been officially inaugurated.
Egis was appointed by SWPC for the design review, site supervision and contract management of Al Shuqaiq 3 Desalination Plant, located on the Red Sea Coast in the town of Shuqaiq, Saudi Arabia. The plant uses reverse osmosis producing a capacity of 450,000m³ of fresh water on a daily basis and incorporates a low power consumption of 3.5kWhr/m³.
“We are proud to be part of such a sustainable and innovative project which is aligned to both Saudi Vision 2030 and the Egis vision. With over 60 years of experience in the water sector, we are pleased to be part of this project, which will supply more than 1.8 million people with drinking water, addressing one of the key challenges of our planet, particularly in this region where water is a scarce resource due to the extreme dry conditions,” said Laure Russier, Middle East Director – Water, Ports, Energy, Environment and Major Structures.
Al Shuqaiq 3 Desalination Plant is recognized as one of the most complex and innovative plants of its kind and has won the “Utilities Project of the Year” award at the Middle East Energy Awards 2019, making it one of the flagship new infrastructure projects in the region.
Emphasizing the success of the project by Egis, Project Manager Mohammad Alsulymani said: “The project successfully completed 9,281,729 safe man-hours with Zero LTI. The project successfully dispatched water on 10th of October 2021, earlier than expected, and was commercially operational by the 9th of January, 2022.”
