National Water Company (NWC), Saudi Arabia and Umm Dl-Qura for Development and Construction (UAQ) the owner and master developer of Masar Destination “Pathway Destination” project, concluded a strategic agreement that aims to construct and supply drinking water, provide sanitation services, and interconnect the internal networks implemented for the “Masar Destination” projects in Makkah, at a total cost of 495 million Saudi Riyals.
Masar destination project is one of the most important strategic projects in Makkah Region and its components contain 205 integrated development lots based on unprecedented infrastructure, 3,650 meters long and 320 meters wide on an area of more than 1.2 million square meters.
Counterpart agreements exchange was witnessed by Nemer bin Mohammed Al-Shebl, CEO (Commissioned), NWC and Yasser Abdulaziz Abuateeq, CEO, UAQ, Owner and Master Developer of Masar Destination.
NWC confirmed that it will manage and follow up the implementation of the main water and sanitation transmission lines to serve Masar Destination and the project’s surrounding areas. NWC will also connect sewage systems of Destination projects to existing, operational and independent sewage systems, including all infrastructure facilities.
Sewage services for Masar Destination are estimated at 64,000 cubic meters per day, according to infrastructure design studies and the general engineering plan for Masar Destination.
NWC added that during the project it will implement five main drinking water transmission lines, with diameters of up to (1,400 mm) and (2,500) mm for combined lines, as well as two main sewage services lines.
On its part, UAQ thanked NWC for its efforts in advancing the water and sanitation sector to ensure sustainable development, noting that this agreement will serve the “Masar Destination” and surrounding areas.
UAQ noted that the general plan of Masar aims to raise the level of urban and service development to become one of the best models of global development, and this agreement comes under this framework of strengthening this trend by providing water and sanitation services that comply with the standards of environmental, social and corporate governance.
UAQ indicated the readiness of the Masar’s infrastructure, which includes an integrated network of tunnels of infrastructure services for electricity, communications, water and sanitation, refrigeration and the central waste collection system extending over the entire area of Masar Destination. This enhances its position as an urban destination aimed at enhancing the quality of life of the residents of Makkah and its visitors for pilgrimage “Hajj” and Lesser Pilgrimage “Omra”.
Under the agreement, Masar projects will be supplied with the specified drinking water quantities. The needs for drinking water services are estimated at 73,000 cubic meters per day. The two parties are committed the drinking water properties will conform to the standards issued by the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization “SASO” for unbottled water.
