Oman announces new launch dates for Manah Solar IPP

Oman Power and Water Procurement Company SAOC (OPWP), a member of Nama Group, extended the launching date of the projects, Manah I and Manh II Solar IPP.

The new commercial operation extended to Q4 2023 and Q1 2024 from its earlier commercial operation date of Q4 2022 and Q1 2023 respectively.

Earlier, during March 2021, OPWP extended the Commercial Bid submission date up to 25 May 2021 from its earlier bid submission date of 16 March 2021. (read more)

Manah I and Manh II Solar IPP tender was part of the second phase of OPWP’s renewables program.

The projects will be located adjacent to each other at a site in Manah, approximately 150 km from capital city of Oman, Muscat.

Each project will have a generation capacity between 500 MW to 600 MW. OPWP announced that each project will be awarded to a separate developer.

The two projects will be built, owned and operated by the private sector and the scope of the projects includes financing, procurement, engineering, construction, operation and maintenance.

The announcement of Manah Solar IPP follows the successful tendering of OPWP’s first utility scale solar IPP (Ibri II Solar project of capacity 500 MW), which was awarded in April 2019 with targeted commercial operation date of June 2021.

The project will be constructed in 1200HA of area.

Once the projects commissioned, it is expected that the CO2 offset will be 680,000 tons/annum.
