Heavy Engineering Industries and Shipbuilding Company (HEISCO), Kuwait announced in a statement that it has secured Zone 2 of South Kuwait Excavation Transportation and Remediation Project.
The Project was awarded by Kuwait Oil Company (KOC).
The value of the contract is KWD 55,617,709 (USD 185.2 million).
Earlier, during December 2020, KOC received proposals from thirteen bidders for Zone 1, Zone 2 and Zone 3. (read more)
As part of the Kuwait Environmental Remediation Program (KERP), the South Kuwait Excavation Transportation and Remediation (SKETR) project addresses oil contaminated soil and sludge located in the Greater Burgan oilfield of Kuwait, identified as South Kuwait (SK).
The Project scope of work includes
- Undertake all Enabling Works to facilitate execution of the project.
- Undertake characterization to identify and quantify the volumes of soil containing
- Excavate contaminated material and segregate TPH levels for remediation and comply with the RTC within excavations.
- Carry out all necessary pre-treatment processes, as necessary, based on the remediation method (physical and/or chemical treatment technologies and bioremediation)
- Remediation of TPH contaminated soils/materials in the range > 7% to ≤ 10%, and as proposed by Contractor and directed and approved by Company, soils in the range TPH > 10% to ≤ 15%, as further defined in Portion 4 of the Technical Specification to the required RTC.
- For Zone 1 and Zone 3 only, each respective Contractor shall design and construct a new landfill facility to (i) contain oil sludge mixtures/) and to (ii) dispose of untreatable contaminated materials at designated landfill cells.
