Doosan awarded $708million EPC contract of Yanbu-4 IWP

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction announced in a statement that it has signed a EPC contract for Yanbu 4 IWP (Independent Water Producer) project.

The value of signed contract is $708 million.

Yanbu-4 IWP will have a plant capacity of 450,000 m3/day. The project is located near the town of Ar Rayyis (140 km west of Madina), Yanbu region, on the Red Sea coast of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The project will to be designed using Reverse Osmosis seawater desalination technology.

The project was awarded by the developer consortium comprising of France’s Engie and Saudi Arabia’s Mowah Company.

Earlier, during February 2020, the developer consortium signed the agreement with the Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) (read more). Engie and Mowah Company’s Consortium submitted the lowest price of SAR 1.7446/Cu.m.

Doosan Heavy plans to complete the construction by 2023.

Once project commissioned, it will feed Makkah and Madinah regions with potable water. The Project will include two days storage tanks as well as solar power to reduce the power consumption from the network.

Under a concession of 25 years, the project company to be incorporated to develop the Project will sell the entire capacity and output to SWPC under a Water Purchase Agreement (WPA).
