Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced in a statement that Utico FZC, UAE is the Preferred Bidder to build and operate for its first Independent Water Producer (IWP) model project, Hassyan IWP,
The plant capacity will be 120 Million Gallons Per Day (MIGD) and will utilize the Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) technology.
Earlier During September 2020, DEWA received the proposals from UTICO and ACWA Power. The Bidder submits the world’s lowest tariff for the project. (read more)
The lowest levelized water tariff submitted by UTICO is 0.277 USD per cubic meter.
DEWA released the tender for the project in October 2019 and issued a retender in May 2020.
The SWRO project is expected to start operations in 2024. The SWRO desalination plant will use the most efficient, proven and reliable state-of-the art technology. The plant will provide a sustainable supply for DEWA’s water network.
The project is part of DEWA’s strategy to increase the water desalination capacity in Dubai to 750 MIGD, from 470 MIGD at present.
Earlier during May 2019, DEWA has appointed UK’s EY as lead and financial adviser for the project, UK-based CMS as legal adviser and Canada’s WSP as technical adviser.
