Tatweer Building Company (TBC), Saudi Arabia announced the preferred bidder for Wave 1 Schools Public Private Partnership programme (PPP).
Under Wave 1 Programme, TBC will award construction of 60 public schools in Jeddah and Mecca on the Build, Maintain, and Transfer (BMT) basis.
The consortium of Ajyad Knowledge for Education and Training and Al Bawani Company submitted the best financial offer on average annual equivalent price for the 60 schools.
The Consortium submitted the price of SAR 86 million.
Wave 1 of the PPP Program will finance, design, build, and facility manage 60 schools that can accommodate more than 50,000 students in the two cities.
The project’s construction phase is 3 years, to be followed by 20 years of maintenance provided by the developer.
As per the statement, TBC aims to complete construction of the first phase in Jeddah within two years and the second phase in Mecca within 3 years from the signing date.
The schools implemented through this programme will provide free educational services and the role of the private sector is limited to financing, constructing, and facility management.
Wave 1 was chosen to be in the cities of Mecca and Jeddah due to the increasing need for educational facilities in the two cities, as well as the Ministry of Education’s (MoE) effort to replace rented schools with enhanced educational environment schools in various regions of the Kingdom.
Global engineering firm, AECOM will manage the services covering the full project lifecycle of planning, design, procurement, construction and facility management.
