Developers issued 230kV Substation RFP related to Saudi Aramco’s Jafurah Cogeneration Project

Developers of Saudi Aramco’s Jafurah cogeneration independent steam and power plant (ISPP) project, which is under bidding stage issued the RFP for 230kV Substation.

The project location is in Jafurah Gas Plant Area, Approximately 260 kilometers south of Dammam, eastern region of Saudi Arabia.

The cogeneration plant will have a power capacity of 270MW-320MW and a low-pressure (LP) steam demand of 77-166 thousand pounds an hour (klb/hr) and high-pressure (HP) steam demand of 29-126 klb/hour by 2023.

Project Description:

The new substation will feed the power supply to the ISPP. The Project Scope of Work involves the construction a new indoor 230kV kV Gas Insulated Substation,

The substation shall be equipped with IEC 61850 standards based technically and economically optimized Substation Automation System (SAS) and will be remotely controlled from the Saudi Electricity Company’s Power Control Center (PCC) through SCADA and Communication.

The Substation consist of following major equipment:

  • 230kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS)
  • Station Service Transformers
  • HV/MV Power Cables and Terminations
  • AC/DC Auxiliary Power Supply
  • Surge Arresters
  • Control/Protection System
  • Substation Automation System (SAS)
  • Communication System
  • Fire Detection/Alarm and Safety and Fire Protection System
  • Civil/Structural works and Mechanical works

The 230kV overhead transmission line (OHTL) portion of the project has been tendered separately by Saudi Electricity Company. (read more)
