Acciona, RTCC secures $500 million Al Khobar 2 desalination plant

Saudi Arabia’s Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) awarded the project “construction of the Al Khobar 2 desalination plant”

The project has been awarded to Spain based construction company, Acciona and its partner, Saudi Arabia’s Al Rashid Trading and Contracting Company (RTCC).

The value of signed contract is around $500 million.

The plant is located at Khobar, on the east coast of Saudi Arabia around 400 kilometres from Riyadh.

The facility will be equipped with reverse osmosis (RO) technology and a daily capacity of more than 600,000 m³.

Al Khobar 2 desalination plant is making it one of the biggest in the country and the largest RO plant under Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) scheme awarded in a single shot in KSA.

Once the project completed, it will provide a service to three million people in the area

In Saudi Arabia, ACCIONA executing following three projects:

Shuqaiq 3 desalination plant: Acciona scope of work includes financing, design, construction, operation and maintenance (for 25 years) of Shuqaiq 3 desalination plant of capacity 450,000 cu.m per day. It will also equipped with a photovoltaic plant to reduce internal energy consumption.

The value of contract is around $813 million. (read more)

Al Khobar 1 desalination plant : In July 2018, a contract was awarded for construction of Al Khobar 1 desalination plant of capacity 210,000 cu.m per day.

It is located close to the Al Khobar 2 plant and serves a population of 1,000,000.

The value of the contract is around $217 million.

Al Jubail RO4 seawater desalination plant: The company has also designed and built the Al Jubail RO4 seawater desalination plant in the east of the country for the utility Marafiq. With a capacity of 100,000 m³ per day, it serves both the city and the nearby industrial complex.
