Abu Dhabi Power Corporation (AD Power), UAE announced in a statement that, it has signed two agreements for the construction of Waste to Energy Plants.
The agreement was signed between AD Power, Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) , Abu Dhabi Waste Management Center – Tadweer
The project locations are in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
Abu Dhabi Waste to Energy Plant:
The plant will be located in the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi in the Mussafah region.
The plant will have an expecting processing capacity of 900,000 tonnes of waster per year. Once commissioned, it will be one of the world’s largest Waste to Energy facilities.
The plant will generate a power of 90MW.
The plant will reduce the Carbon dioxide emissions by 1.5 million tonnes per year , which is equivalent to removing more than 300,000 cars from the road.
The project will power an average of 22,500 UAE households.
Al Ain Waste to Energy Plant:
The plant will have an expecting processing capacity of 600,000 tonnes of waste per year.
The plant will generate a power of 60MW.
The plant will reduce the Carbon dioxide emissions by one million tonnes per year , which is equivalent to removing more than 200,000 cars from the road.
The project will power an average of 15,000 UAE households.
The proposed Waste to Energy plants would be developed through the Independent Power Producers model applied in respect of Abu Dhabi power projects since 1998.
In line with such a model, a long-term Power Purchase Agreement would be entered into, with EWEC as the off-taker of the electricity and Tadweer as the provider of feedstock waste under a long-term waste supply agreement.
Private sector participants would be invited to submit proposals to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the facilities, which will use advanced moving grate technology to convert municipal solid waste into electricity via a high-efficiency steam turbine generator set. Ash from the process will be processed and recycled into reusable material.
