Bahrain’s Electricity & Water Authority (EWA) awarded the project “66kV Submarine and Underground Cable Works for Electricity Supply to Hawar Island”.
The project has been awarded to Saudi based construction company, Al-Gihaz Company Limited .
The value of signed contract is BHD 47,571,428.572 (1 BHD = 2.65957 USD)
Earlier, during October 2019, EWA announces the prices of three shortlisted contractors. After technical evaluation the project has been awarded.(read more)
66kV Submarine and Underground Cable Works:
Project scope of work involves design, manufacture, transport, installation, jointing and testing of 66kV cable contains submarine & underground and associated accessories on a lump-sum turnkey basis at Hawar Island.
Submarine Cable Works:
Three 3-core, 66 kV, XLPE submarine cable with built-in fibre optic cable between the landing stations on the Mainland side and the landing stations on the Hawar Islands side.
The approximate route length is 25km.
Underground Cable Works
- Three 3-core, 66 kV, XLPE Underground Cable approximate route length of 5km on mainland Bahrain
- Three 3-core, 66 kV, XLPE Underground Cable approximate route length of 5km on Hawar Island
The project will be funding by Saudi Fund for Development.
As Bahrain plans to develop the Hawar Islands as a tourist complex, it sought to build a submarine power grid to supply electricity there, in an environment-friendly way instead of constructing a power plant.
