Oman announces the qualified bidders for 146 MW of Solar-Diesel-Storage Hybrid projects

Oman Rural Areas Electricity Company (Tanweer) announces the qualified bidders for the development and construction of 11 solar-diesel-storage Hybird power projects, inline with their objective to maximize renewable Energy Sources Implementation.

Earlier, durinr August 2019, Tanweer invited Statement of Qualification (SOQ) from all the interested applicants to participate in the Bid Process for the Tanweer 11 Sites Hybrid Renewable Project. (read more)

The expected total capacity of the projects is 146 MW.

The hybrid plants will be constructed on a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis. Tanweer will execute the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the successful developer for a period of 15 years.

Tanweer announces the tentative schedule and project time line as follows:

  • RFP Release – 15 December 2019
  • Site visits commencement – 15 January 2019

Tanweer will be responsible for fuel supply and securing land permits. Developer scope of work includes development, financing, procurement, implementation, operation & maintenance and dispatch from the facilities

The expected generation capacity of the project is classified as follows:

  • PV Plant – 48MW
  • Diesel Generator Set – 70MW
  • Battery Energy Storage System – 28MW

Tanweer currently operates 34 diesel power plants located in isolated rural areas of Oman, serving around 38,000 customers. Individual plant capacities range from less than 1 MW up to 80 MW.

In 2014, Tanweer signed an agreement with Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) to develop Dhofar wind power project with a total installed capacity of 50MW, connected to the grid.
