Etihad Rail awards $1.25 billion contract for Package D

Etihad Rail has awarded the project package D civil and construction works contract for stage 2 of the UAE’s national railway.

The project has been awarded to joint venture of China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) and the UAE’s National Projects & Construction (NPC).

The Signed Contract value for Etihad Rail’s Package D Works is AED 4.6 billion.

Package D will link the ports of Fujairah and Khorfakkan to the network at the Dubai border with Sharjah, and stretches over a distance of 145 kilometres.

This will be enabling transportation of up to 2 million containers per year, and promoting international trade.

The Project scope of work includes construction of 15 tunnels through the Hajar Mountains with a total length of 16km, as well as 35 bridges and 32 underpasses.

Earlier Projects awarded by Etihad Rail:

Package A:

The first civil works package awarded to a joint venture China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) and South Korea’s SK Engineering. The value of the contract is AED1.5 billion.

As per the contract, companies will construct a rail line of 139km in the Al-Dhafra region between Ghuweifat and Ruwais.

Package B & C:

The contracts for packages B and C were awarded to a joint venture of CRCC and local contracting firm Ghantoot Transport & General Contracting.

The total contract value for both packages is AED4.4 billion.

Package B runs for 216km, while package C runs for 94km. The packages are part of the 605km line from Ghuweifat to the Port of Fujairah.
