Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC), formerly known as Water & Electricity Company (WEC) signed a contract to build the Taif Independent Sewage Treatment Plant (ISTP).
SWPC signed the contract with a consortium comprising of Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios, S.A. (Cobra) and International Water Distribution Co. Ltd. (Tawzea), jointly owned by Saudi Industrial Services Co (SISCO) and Saudi Arabian Amiantit Co.
The ISTP will be located near the city of Taif, in the Makkah Province of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The project scope of work includes designing, building, operating and maintaining the plant and transferring the ownership on BOOT basis, along with the development of infrastructure and related facilities.
The expected project’s investment cost of SAR 315 million will be financed through a Shariah-compliant Islamic finance facility.
The project aims to develop a wastewater treatment facility with a capacity up to 100,000 cubic meters per day. The plant will be designed to expandable capacity of 270,000 cubic meters.
Construction works are expected to start during the second quarter of 2020.
Under a 25-year Sewage Treatment Agreement (STA) with SWPC, the project company to be incorporated to develop the Project will treat the entire sewage capacity supplied by SWPC.
Earlier, during October 2019, SWPC announces the joint venture between International Water Distribution Co. (Tawzea), Spain’s Cobra, as the preferred bidder for the Taif Independent Sewerage Plant project.
