Bahrain’s utility company, Electricity & Water Authority (EWA) issued Letter of Award (LOA) to build 66kV Substations, which is part of 220kV & 66kV Transmission development (2012-2016), Phase-2.
The letter of Award was issued to Saudi based Construction Companies Al-Babtain Contracting Company (06 Substations), Alfanar Construction Company (05 Substations) and NESMA Electric (04 Substations).
EWA already awarded following contracts to bidders, which are part of 220kV & 66kV Transmission development (2012-2016), Phase-2.
- Two (2) nos. 220kV Substation to Al Mashariq Trading & Contracting (read more). The value of the contract is $ 66 million.
- 220kV and 66kV Cable Project to Mohammed Al Ojaimi Establishment (read more). The value of the contract is $ 89 million.
Project Description:
As part of the package, there are fifteen (15) Substations that will be constructed across Kingdom of Bahrain. Following are the names of Substations:
- Eskan Lawzi loop
- Eskan Sanad city
- East Hidd A city
- East Hidd B city
- East Hidd C city
- Jau city
- Askar city
- AMAS C city
- AMAS D city
- AMAS E city
- AMAS F city
- Eskan Ramli “A”
- King Abdulla Medical City
- Juzr Hawar
- Sports City
Voltage level of above substations will be 66/11kV.
Scope of Work includes Design, supply, installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of substation works on lump sum turnkey basis.
Major equipment includes 66kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), Power Transformers, Medium Voltage Switchgear, Control and Protection systems, Telecommunication systems, HV cable between switchgear and transformers, Auxiliary Power Supply system, Substation Civil Works and Associated Building Services.
Background:
Earlier, during 2017 EWA issued a tender to construct two (2) new 220 kV substation, associated 220 kV cable feeders, fourteen (14) new 66 kV substations and associated 66 kV cable feeders in order to provide electricity to a number of nationally important strategic housing projects.
This development by EWA is known as “220 kV & 66 kV Transmission Development (2012-2016) – Phase 2”. Later one additional 66kV Substation was added.
The Project is funding by Saudi Fund for Development and implemented & Supervised by EWA.
Ireland’s engineering firm, ESB International will be the engineering Consultant for EWA for 220kV & 66kV Transmission development (2012-2016), Phase-2.
