Oman’s Khazaen Economic City LLC (KEC), the master developer of the largest public-private-partnership (PPP) project in Oman, has awarded its first construction contract to Galfar Engineering & Contracting Company.
The value of signed contract is for OMR 9.2million (1$=0.3845 OMR)
Project Scope of work includes developing 10km of asphalt roads, a streetlight network, 15km of storm water channels, and a 22km potable water network including the main water transmission line and storage tanks.
Contractor need to complete the project activates in 12 months. Galfar is expected to begin construction in October of this year.
“The development of a high-quality infrastructure network at Khazaen Economic City demonstrates our commitment to this project and will serve as an important catalyst for growth – attracting investors and tenants alike.” Said by CEO of Khazan Economic City Mr. Khalid Awadh al Balushi.
He said the first phase of development will open up an area of 3 million Sq. m, representing a major investment opportunity in one of the sultanate’s key infrastructure initiatives.
“We encourage all interested parties, both foreign and domestic, to submit investment applications at the earliest available opportunity.” Statement said.
The new economic city will include a dry port along with residential, commercial, and industrial zones, as well as a business hub.
Khazaen Economic City will be developed in several phases to become an integrated city, located strategically between Oman’s capital and Sohar free zone.
Khazaen is strategically located in Barka and will cover an area of 52 Sq. km in its first stage. Khazaen will host dedicated areas for commercial, industrial, and residential use, whilst also providing the residents of the wider region with new health, education and leisure facilities.
Earlier, KEC, has appointed Atkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group,as a lead consultant for Khazaen’s master planning, design and supervision work.
