Saudi Electricity Company signed an agreement for 2600 MW, Makkah’s Solar Power Plant

Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, emir of Makkah and advisor to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, signed an agreement with Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) to build a solar power plant within the Al-Faisaliah area of Makkah Region.

Once the project completed, it will have a total capacity is 2600 MW.

The project will be executed in two phases. The first phases of the project, 600 megawatts (MW) will be issued for tender during this year.

As per the agreement, SEC was granted the right to use the land in accordance with the project requirements.

The Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources will carry out, through the Renewable Energy Projects Development Office (REPDO), preparatory technical studies for the entire solar power plant.

The project aims to feed around 340,000 homes and keep pace with the expected increase in population and pilgrims in Makkah region.
