Abu Dhabi invites bid for 2000 MW Solar Project

UAE’s Emirates Water and Electricity Company, EWEC has issued a tender for the construction and development of a new 2,000 MW solar photovoltaic, PV, power project.

The project location will be in Al Dhafra area of Abu Dhabi.

Once the project completed, the project site will cover an area of approximately 20 Sq.mm, almost doubling the capacity of the current largest operational single-site solar PV plant in the world, Noor Abu Dhabi in  Sweihan.

The project will involve the financing, construction, operation and maintenance of the 2GW solar plant under a long-term power-purchase agreement (PPA).

The new project is expected to achieve commercial operations during the first quarter of 2022, adding Abu Dhabi’s total solar capacity to 3,200 MW.

Earlier, during this year, a total of 48 international and national developers had shown their interest to participate in this project.

Successful bidders will have a share of 40% equity participation in the solar plant, with the remaining 60% share of the plant will own by government of Abu Dhabi.
