Abu Dhabi’s, Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) announced in a statement that, “Noor Abudhabi”, the world’s largest single solar project, with a capacity of 1,177MW, has started commercial operation.
The project was developed by the Abu Dhabi Government , EWEC and consortium of Japan’s Marubeni Corporation and China’s Jinko Solar Holding.
EWEC and the government of Abu Dhabi will own 60% of the plant, with the remaining 40% being held by Marubeni and JinkoSolar
The overall cost of the project was AED 3.2 billion (1$=3.76 AED). The project is located in Sweihan, Al-Ain region in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The plant is expected to meet the power demand of 90,000 people. The plant is installed across 8 Sq.mm of area. The plant has been utilised more than 3.2 million solar panels.
During 2017, Noor Abudhabi’s bid price was the world’s most competitive tariff, which is 8.8888 fils/kWh (2.94 cents per kWh).
India’s leading firm, Sterling & Wilson was the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor. The company, will also provide operation and maintenance services.
EWEC was advised by Fichtner as technical adviser, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld as the legal adviser and Alderbrook Finance as financial adviser for the project.
