Spanish firm, Abeongoa has received an order to start early works of the Abu Dhabi’s Taweelah power and water generation complex.
The order has been received in consortium with Chines firm SEPCO III and the project has been awarded by Saudi utility firm ACWA Power.
The planned capacity of the project is 200 million imperial gallons a day (909,000 m3/d), it will guarantee supply to the city of Abu Dhabi throughout the year. It will be the first large scale desalination plant in the United Arab Emirate that combines the production of drinking water with the generation of clean energy.
scope of the project includes the collection of seawater, pumping, pretreatment, reverse osmosis system with energy recovery, post-treatment, pumping station, product water storage, effluent treatment, discharge by outfall and field solar photovoltaic (40MW), as well as the associated electrical installations that comprise the construction of an electrical substation of 132/34.5 kV.

Earlier, during January 2019, ACWA Power awarded the Taweelah desalination plant by Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA). ACWA Power submitted the price of AED 8.26 per thousand gallons.
ACWA Power will own 40 percent of the plant and ADWEA will own the other 60 percent
