Saudi Arabia’s Shuqaiq 3 IWP awarded to Developer

29-Jan-2019: The Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Water and Electricity Company (WEC), Abdulrahman bin Abdul Mohsen Al Fadley, signed the agreement of Shuqaiq 3 Independent Water Plant, IWP.

The agreement signed with the winning consortium of Marubeni Corporation, Acciona Agua S.A., Abdul Latif Jameel Commercial Development Company and Rawafid Alhadarah Holding Co. on Tuesday 29 January 2019.

The Consortium was submitted lowest price of 1.9521 SAR/cu.m out of total six Consortiums.

Earlier during December 2018, WEC announced that, it has appointed The consortium comprising Marubeni Corporation, Abdul Latif Jameel Commercial Development Company, Acciona Agua SA and Rawafid Alhadarah Holding Company as the Preferred Bidder. (read more)

The Project scope included the development, design, financing, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the Shuqaiq 3 desalination plant of 450,000 m3/day and the development, design, financing, construction, commissioning and transfer of the associated Electrical Special Facilities.

The Shuqaiq 3 IWP Plant will be located in the city of Shuqaiq, on the Red Sea Coast, approximately 137 km north of Jazan, Southern region of Saudi Arabia. The Plant is designed using Reverse Osmosis seawater desalination technology to produce the potable water.

WEC is being advised by:
• Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (DIFC Branch) as Lead and Financial Adviser
• DLA Piper Saudi Arabia as Legal Adviser; and
• ILF-Tecon & Partners Engineering PSC as Technical Adviser.
